The customer list hadn't been touched in a few years, the filters were hidden and hard to use. The content was difficult to read and didn't scale across languages. 

All content on Shopify is translated into 22 languages and the existing filters were structured a sentence builder which relied on every language having the same syntax as English to scale. 

Instead, we created a pattern where each string makes sense independently so that it would work across languages. This project was also the ideal case study for a talk I gave at our internal yearly UX conference called 'Designing stuff that doesn't break across languages'.
